Beware of the sun’s UV rays!

Share

The sun is essential to life, but it can also cause health problems in the event of overexposure.

The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can:
  •  Accelerate skin aging, causing the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots
  • Damage the eyes
  • Cause skin cancer, including fatal melanoma

Beware of the sun’s UV rays!

Protect yourself from the sun and avoid sunburn by following these guidelines:
  • Use a parasol if your activities (like lifeguarding) require you to be in the sun for extended periods
  • Wear protective clothing, like a wide-brimmed hat and a long-sleeved shirt
  • Wear sunglasses with UV 400 protection
  • Seek out shade, but if you can’t avoid exposure to the sun, apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or more
