Regional camping and RVing association Outaouais (16) The
Outaouais Association celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2004, which also marked
its first major FQCC opening rally. We have over 1,600 member families, throughout
southwestern Quebec and Southeastern Ontario. Our region, measuring 33,000
km2, is located in the far southwestern corner of Quebec, and boasts upwards of
20,000 lakes and a dozen rivers. It is surrounded by Abitibi-Témiscamingue,
the Laurentians and Greater Ottawa. The written history of the region began in
1613, when Champlain arrived in Algonquin country, looking for the Northwest Passage.
It was not until 1800 that economic development really started in the region,
when Loyalist Philemon Wright arrived and established the logging industry here.
The Outaouais has so much to offer! First of all, the exciting urban scene,
with its many museums, the casino, theatres, bicycle trails, exceptional dining
and nearby Parliament hill, where two cultures blend to create a mix unlike anything
you'll find elsewhere. Just a few kilometres from downtown you can get your fill
of nature, with plenty of well-equipped parks, lakes and rivers and charming little
villages, where artist and artisans will be pleased to show you their wares. It's
a paradise for anglers and hunters, too, and anyone who appreciates autumn colours,
mountains and rushing rivers, just perfect for rafting and canoeing. Its
location gives our Association a unique character, in that member families come
both from the huge Outaouais region and from southeastern Francophone Ontario.
The close and friendly relations between these two areas mean that our rallies
and activities are held in both Quebec and Ontario. Board members are also drawn
from both sides of the border.
