Associations régionales de Camping Caravaning

Regional camping and RVing association
Gaspésie - Les Îles (04)

The Gaspé region, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence, is renowned for its beautiful and grandiose natural landscapes. The peninsula is an extension of the Appalachian system, and its spectacular relief never fails to inspire admiration. It is surrounded by the waters of the St. Lawrence Estuary and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, crisscrossed by a multitude of clear-flowing rivers that are an angler's dream, and dotted with numerous parks and reserves. Forests, beaches, cliffs and meadows make an ideal environment for flora and fauna of all kinds. It's a veritable Eden, overflowing with natural splendours. Here you'll find some of the loveliest panoramas in Quebec, even in all of Canada. The Gaspé is all rolling vistas covered with verdant forests and sprinkled with sparkling crystal waters.

The Magdalen Islands (Îles-de-la-Madeleine) whisk you off to another world as soon as you step ashore. The landscape consists of islands and dunes that join together, split apart and stretch out as far as they eye can see, like jewels strung on a watery necklace. The islands are like a miniature country, enhanced by green valleys, long sandy beaches, jagged red cliffs and the variety of blues and greens that the omnipresent sea and the lagoons share with the azure sky and the colourful aquatic life. The Islands stretch out in a 65-km crescent, located in the heart of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. They lie 215 km from the Gaspé peninsula, 105 km from Prince Edward Island and 95 km from Cape Breton island.

Our region extends over great distances, since it includes both the Gaspé and the Magdalen Islands, so it takes a special effort to bring together as many members as possible.

Our club was born in the 1970s. At that time, a few local clubs would meet occasionally. These clubs decided to join the FQCC in 1981, and formed ARCC 04/Gaspésie with Georges Ouellon as President. Over the years our Association has been led by different individuals with its best interests at heart: Marie-Anna Adams, Denis Audet, Georges Ouellon, Liliane Chassé, Antonin Bourgeois, Gaétan Bélanger, Patrick Lebreux and Michel Langlois. The Islands joined the Association in 1989, to form ARCC 04/Gaspésie-les Îles.

Although the Magdalen Islands are part of ARCC 04, the members on the Islands have their own board and the serving president is an ex officio member of the board of our Association, as a director. Over the years, Michel Arseneau, Yvette Bénard, Gérard Cyr, Micheline Petitpas and Fernande Cyr have served as president.

At present our Association consists of 856 member families, 400 of them on the Islands. It is worth noting that our Association also includes members from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

We also belong to the Gaspésie Tourism Association, with the goal of making the Gaspé and the Islands better known and bringing together camping enthusiasts for family fun at local and provincial events.

We could never have come this far without the constant support of our predecessors. Our Association is lucky enough to have many generous volunteers who are always prepared to pitch in to guarantee the success of its different activities. Members are also lucky in that we have an electricity and water system when we meet outside a campground.

If you would like to experience Gaspé and the Islands, visit us during our rallies or be part of our one big family, you will always be welcome.

You're sure to enjoy the legendary hospitality of the Gaspé and the Magdalen Islands.
